COURSE OBJECTIVES

To equip Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) electrical and energy systems maintenance technicians and artisans with practical skills and competencies to safely operate, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain low-voltage electrical installations and associated energy systems at railway stations, depots and workshops, in accordance with IEC standards and TRC safety procedures

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Safely isolate, operate and test low-voltage electrical systems using appropriate safety procedures and test instruments.
• Install, inspect and troubleshoot low-voltage distribution boards, wiring, protection devices and lighting systems.
• Wire, operate and maintain electric motors, motor starters and basic variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Inspect, test and maintain standby generators, UPS systems, battery banks and solar PV installations.
• Conduct earthing, bonding and surge protection tests to ensure electrical safety and system reliability.
• Systematically identify, diagnose, rectify and verify electrical faults in low-voltage installations and equipment.
• Prepare and implement preventive maintenance checklists, technical inspection records and maintenance job cards.
• Demonstrate practical competence in maintaining low-voltage electrical installations and energy systems in railway stations, depots and workshops
