The Competence-Based Nursing Training Programs aim to strengthen nurses’ knowledge, skills, and professional competencies to enable them to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality healthcare services. The programs focus on enhancing clinical competence in critical care, emergency, paediatric, perioperative, and dialysis nursing; promoting the application of evidence-based practices; improving the use of modern medical technologies; reinforcing adherence to professional standards, ethics, and patient safety; and building capacity in emergency response, life-saving interventions, and advanced life support while fostering critical thinking, teamwork, and effective communication in multidisciplinary healthcare settings

The target participants for the training are registered nurses with a minimum qualification of a Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery, as well as holders of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing or Midwifery. The training will run for a period of 26 to 30 weeks, with 6 weeks dedicated to classroom sessions and the remaining 20 to 24 weeks for clinical placement rotations at JKCI. The courses are scheduled to take place from February to September 2026 and will be conducted at the University of Dar es Salaam Main Campus in collaboration with the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), Dar es Salaam.
