LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Explain key concepts, principles, and objectives of Environmental Assessment, including EIA, ESIA, SEA, and Environmental Auditing, and their relevance to sustainable development.
- Interpret and apply national and international legal frameworks, policies, and guidelines governing environmental assessment and management in Tanzania and beyond.
- Conduct comprehensive environmental and social analyses to identify, predict, and evaluate potential impacts of development projects.
- Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) that include effective mitigation, monitoring, and evaluation strategies.
- Prepare high-quality Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports that meet national regulatory standards and international best practices.
- Critically review and assess EIA/ESIA reports for quality, compliance, and technical adequacy to support sound decision-making.
- Apply Environmental Assessment tools and techniques such as risk analysis, GIS mapping, and environmental modeling for improved impact prediction and management.
- Promote stakeholder engagement and participatory approaches in the EIA/ESIA process, ensuring inclusion of affected and interested parties
- Evaluate and integrate Environmental Assessment outcomes into project planning, approval, and implementation processes to achieve sustainable project performance.
- Demonstrate ethical and professional responsibility in conducting, managing, and reporting environmental assessments in alignment with sustainable development principles.
TARGET PARTICIPANTS
The Environmental Assessment for Sustainable Development course targets environmental practitioners, government officials, consultants, academicians, and students. The fees are TZS 1,500,000 (local non-students), TZS 800,000 (local students), USD 400 (foreign students), and USD 750 (foreign non-students). Fees cover tuition, materials, meals, and a certificate, excluding travel and accommodation. Payments should be made before the course starts to UDSM via NMB (A/C 20801100001, SWIFT: NMEJTZTZ) or NBC (A/C 012105005554, SWIFT: NLCBTZTX) for USD.
