COURSE OBJECTIVES

To enhance the understanding of Carbon Trade through increased knowledge and skills among stakeholders, including policy and decision makers, regulators, practitioners, developers, and other affected and interested parties.

  • Carbon Markets and Emissions Trading.
  • Carbon Project Design – including project appraisal, measurement, verification, and reporting.
  • Policy, Regulatory, and Institutional Frameworks for Nature-Based Solutions in mitigating climate change

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of key climate change concepts, including global warming, GHGs, adaptation, and mitigation.
  • Analyze international and national frameworks for climate change governance and apply them to policy and practice.
  • Identify and evaluate climate change mitigation options, including Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) such as REDD+ and CDM.
  • Explain the functioning of carbon markets and emissions trading systems.
  • Design and appraise carbon projects, including processes for measurement, verification, and reporting.
  • Assess policy, regulatory, and institutional frameworks that support climate change mitigation and carbon trading.
  • Apply acquired skills to develop practical solutions and strategies for advancing carbon trade initiatives at local, national, and international levels

TARGET PARTICIPANTS

The target participants are practitioners and technical staff across levels and sectors in Tanzania, ranging from Government, CSOs, and Private Sector stakeholders. he Carbon Trade short course will be delivered through a combination of lectures and presentations, case studies, group activities, and a field excursion, and will take place at the Institute of Resource Assessment (IRA), University of Dar es Salaam, Mwalimu Nyerere Main Campus. The training fees are TZS 2,500,000 for local non-students, TZS 1,200,000 for local students, USD 800 for foreign students, and USD 1,200 for foreign non-students, while the field excursion will cost USD 500 for foreign participants and TZS 600,000 for local participants. The fee covers tuition, course materials, a certificate of attendance, lunch, and mid-session tea/refreshments, with participants responsible for their own travel and accommodation (though affordable options can be recommended upon request).
